My crocuses are doing well – and so are my snowdrops and hellebores.
Once Spring is really under way, the next thing I watch for is the first open flower on the camellia.
The buds have been revealing tantalising glimpses of pink for perhaps a week now, and today I spotted the first flower starting to burst out of its hard brown casing.
So here is my first camellia flower of 2011 – not yet fully open, but this lovely splash of pink is good enough for me.
These are the colours of Spring and of Easter – yellow, white, blue, green and pink – and Easter now seems just around the corner. We haven’t started Lent yet, of course, but who cares about a minor detail like that? Easter comes every time we celebrate the eucharist, and the risen Christ is with us every minute of every day.
‘This is the day that the Lord has made – let us rejoice and be glad in it.’
